About This Project

KEIM was specified as a sole source for the repair and restoration of the original lower section, which included all facades and decorative features and sculptural elements. The decision was made to replace failed cast stone units and to consolidate and repair existing features with KEIM and coat with KEIM Restauro Lasur. Parts of the interior restoration also used KEIM Restauro Lasur. Parts of the interior restoration also used KEIM Restauro Lasur over new and existing limestone.

Challenges	After demolition of the interior of the historic base, the entire perimeter facades were supported with major steel armature during the two year period of construction of the high rise glass envelope that rises above the historic six story base. Replacement parts were blended with the existing historic cast stone with KEIM Restauro system materials. The historic original color was researched and matched for patching, jointing and for the translucent mineral stain, Restauro Lasur. PSS 20 was utilized at the 59th Street subway entrance, which is part of this structure – and also at adjacent lower sections of the building where graffiti was expected to happen.
Solutions	A whole range of KEIM products were used, including Silex OH 100 for consolidation and also some PSS 20 at the lower section of building.
