About This Project

Project for Hamilton House shares the architectural concept of other two high rise graduate housing 'skyscrapers' of the 70's.  Twenty six stories - concrete structure representing the contextualism of the 'Philadelphia School' - can be termed as Modernist style.  House was scheduled for very extensive concrete rehabilitation and the extent of repairs and odd conditions, staining, etc. and the project involved decisions re coloration and ratio of translucency for Concretal Lasur.

Challenges Callibration of color and translucency was especially challenging for this project with the extent of concrete repairs and challenges. As a result, we developed some localized detailing with a less diluted Lasur to hide some patched conditions. Color was explored and implemented on shear walls as well as all exterior elevations.
Solutions Aged and repaired concrete was cleaned with Concrete Cleaner and the surface was pre-treated with Silan 100 Water Repellency. Concretal Lasur Mineral Silicate Stain was used to equalize the various shades of concrete and hide patches, without changing the original raw concrete aesthetic. Various dilutions of Concretal Lasur were utilized to achieve an overall more uniform color appearance.
